We are all familiar with the days of effortlessly perfect hair, soft, shiny and full of life. After a certain threshold, daunting exam or financial stresses, sleep deprivation and endless responsibilities weighs down on us. And without us realising it, our once long and luscious locks that used to fall down gracefully on our backs is now met with rebellious and dry texture at the tip of the strands. Even worse, our hair starts to fall out at an alarming rate.
A handful of fortunate girls possess incredible genes that allow them to keep their beautiful hair without having to go through unnecessary efforts. However, for whatever comfort it’s worth, hair problems are more often than not a shared experience among us girls and I am not an exception. By the time I begin facing issues with my hair after taking a bold step to chemical dye it at the age of 15, it was too late to regret it. At least the brown I picked was a gorgeous shade. Anyways, after arduous attempts to correct my damaged and thinning hair to retrieve my youthful hair, I’ve compiled a list of things that did and did not work for me. For reference, I have classic asian 1b hair.

Know The Root Cause
Most of the times, damaged or falling hair is a result of compounded factors. Identifying these possible causes is essential in better understanding yourself. Even if they are not problems you can solve instantly, but awareness is the first step to adjusting your lifestyle and habits to suit your hair goals.

Stress
Consistently high levels of stress can not only have adverse impacts on your mental health, but chronic stress has long been linked to hair loss . The inability to adequately manage stress can cause more severe issues such as sleep deprivation which will worsen hair health.

Nutrition Deficiency
Tons of people neglect the fact that nutrition plays an indispensable role in hair health. Personally, I noticed my hair fall out at breakneck speeds after going about the wrong way in cutting calories. Because excluding essential nutrients in my meals inadvertently caused me to lose a bulk of my precious locks.

Heat Damage
It is almost impossible to entirely avoid heat tools when it comes to hair styling and exploring different looks. Luckily, for the most of us, applying heat protectants and limiting its use to special occasions is sufficient to prevent significant damage to our hair. Furthermore, if using heating tools is something you are already used to, focus on building other good hair habits instead of forcing yourself to rid one.

Underlying Health Issues
Certain health conditions like alopecia, anemia, thyroid disorders, and autoimmune diseases can disrupt the hair growth cycle, leading to excessive shedding. Additionally, medications for blood pressure, depression, chemotherapy, and birth control may cause temporary or long-term hair loss. Consulting a doctor is essential for proper diagnosis and treatment.

Air Dry Your Hair
Avoid using a heated hairdryer after showers, as excessive heat can weaken hair strands, causing dryness, breakage, and split ends. Instead, allow your hair to dry naturally. If air-drying takes too long, use a blow dryer on the cool setting while maintaining a safe distance from your hair to prevent the effects of heat damage.

Hair oiling is of utmost importance for those looking to regrow strong and resilient hair. Oiling is akin to cementing a good scalp foundation and providing the ideal condition for hair to grow faster and longer while strengthening hair vitality.
Tip: I would highly recommend mixing your own oils and storing them in a suitable glass dropper bottle. However, you can also purchase pre-mixed oils to save you the hassle. Based on my personal experience, I would strongly encourage a mixture of HIQILI rosemary oil, NOW Jojoba Oil and NOW Grapeseed Oil for amazing results.

Switching to silk or satin pillowcases helps reduce friction, prevent breakage, and retain hair moisture, keeping your hair smoother, healthier, and less prone to tangling. Additionally, silk pillow covers provided added comfort to your sleep so what are you waiting for?
